Donna Lee Vickie Zietz (Kowalski) was born early, Wednesday morning, Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1951. It was a relief to her superstitious parents, Stanley and Lillian (Choroszynski) Kowalski, that she was not born on the 13th. This special day filled her heart with love and passion for many things. Donna Lee loved Ruffles potato chips, RC Cola, Elvis Presley, John Wayne, the color orange, and anything Pillsbury Doughboy-related. Her passions included gardening, baking, jigsaw puzzles, and traveling. She took pride in never forgetting a loved one’s birthday or anniversary and her love for the holidays was unsurpassed. She would carve up to 200 pumpkins for Halloween and for Christmas she would transform their home into a winter wonderland. Donna Lee loved many things; however, getting her picture taken was not one of them.
Donna Lee was the middle of five children: Ronald Kowalski of Mayville (predeceased), Jo Ann (Dale) Mason of Clear Lake, Wisconsin, Gary (Sally) Kowalski of Saginaw, and Kent (Rebecca) Kowalski of Mayville.
Donna Lee started her education in a one-room schoolhouse, which still stands today at the corner of M-24 and North Grove Road in Mayville. She then attended Mayville High School and later Delta College. She met her future husband, Jack L. Zietz (predeceased), while attending college. They married in Mayville, on April 5, 1975, during a snowstorm. They built a house together in Birch Run – that Donna Lee designed herself – and she transformed it into a home, raising their three children: Jason Zietz of Allegan, Vanesa (Darin) Dickinson of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and Heath (Peggy) Zietz of Ortonville. Donna Lee raised the kids and maintained their home and yard while Jack worked at Steering Gear in Saginaw. A college education was important to both Jack and Donna Lee. So much so, that she re-entered the workforce to help support their children’s degrees. She worked at the Frankenmuth Methodist Church as a custodian and at one point she worked simultaneously at the Birch Run Knights of Columbus, as hall manager. She retired from the K of C in 2022.
Donna Lee had three grandchildren that she spoiled every chance she could: Isaac Zietz (9 years), Samantha Dickinson (8 years) and Horatio Zietz (7 years).
While doing what she loved – working in her yard – Donna Lee suffered a stroke. She passed away at 12:18AM on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Covenant Healthcare of Saginaw. She was 73 years old.
Visitation will be held at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 11AM until 8PM. A Rosary prayer will be held at 6:30PM Friday evening. A memorial service will be held in honor of Donna Lee at 11AM Saturday, July 27, 2024, with visitation from 10AM until the time of service. A graveside service at North Grove Cemetery in Caro to follow. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Dow Gardens in Midland.

After a long, brave and courageous battle with cancer, our Cindy has gone home to be with The Lord.
In Heaven, she will be reunited with her father, Nick Paul Lugowski; mother, Patricia Ann Lugowski (Certo) and her brother Karl Joseph Lugowski. Oh, what a homecoming that must have been with hugs, kisses, laughter, singing and dancing!
Cindy was born in Detroit on August 10, 1966. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Mayville and the family farm. Being "country kids" she and her siblings were raised with morals, values and a strong work ethic that would carry on for the rest of her life
Right after graduation from Mayville High school, Cindy went to work for an insurance agency in Flint. Working during the day and taking insurance classes in the evenings she landed a job with Pioneer State Mutual. She quickly worked her way up from 'clerk/typist' to 'Personal Lines Underwriter' and then to 'Farm Underwriter' In 1994 Cindy went to work for Hastings Mutual Insurance as a 'Personal Lines Underwriter', moving up the ranks to 'Farm Underwriter' then 'Senior Farm Underwriter'. Cindy finishing her nearly 30-year career with Hastings in the Marketing Department. I had the privilege of being retired and being able to listen in as she worked from home.
Cindy was a valuable team member. Always contributing good ideas, suggestions and thinking out of the box. When Cindy Freemire spoke, people listened. I was very proud of her! I cannot say enough nice things about Hastings Mutual. An outstanding company that looks alter its employees in sickness and in health. It was while she worked at Hastings, I started to get acquainted with Cindy over the phone as she was my underwriter. We met face to face on a blind date 12/27/1996 and our hearts have been one ever since.
Cindy was a lot of fun and had a smile that would light up a room. As her mother, Pat, would often say, "if Cindy was around people were laughing and having fun". Cindy was a soft and gentle person with an old soul. She was kind, generous, witty and had a love for life. She was a blackbelt in verbal judo and our banter back and forth entertained many.
Cindy had many varied talents. She made jewelry, enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers. She was a very accomplished self-taught watercolor artist. Just before she got sick, she was scheduled to do a public exhibit but had to cancel. She also had a keen eye for photography. Many of her paintings and photographs have won her awards and are on display in the home office of Hastings Mutual. She was well loved at Hastings and will be missed by her co-workers.
Cindy had a true love and passion for all children, animals and was a champion for the elderly. She excelled and being my wife, a mom, sister, daughter, aunt, grandma and great grandma and friend. Cindy cared! She did not just buy gifts for her grandchildren but gave of her time.... talking, playing, coloring, playing Uno and Trouble just to name a few games, sharing and teaching her love of painting, taking all nieces and nephews senior pictures, always had time to listen, and would show her support. She was born to be a grandmother!
Cindy loved all animals, but she loved and adored her cat, Smokey, most of all! Smokey never wanted for anything and was loved on, all day, every day.
If you met Cindy, you loved her and laughed with her, you couldn't help it. And instantly you had an inside joke, a new nickname and you had a loyal friend.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Steven E. Freemire; son, William A. Freemire; daughter, Tamara (Terry) Smith; son, Steven R. Freemire and Jessica M. LaCosse; sister, Stephanie (Mark) Sanders; brother, Nick Lugowski; sister, Joanna (Mark) Goodfellow; sister, Helen (Joseph) Abbott; and very special granddaughter/Protégé, Kylie Pahl; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements are being handled by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home in East Lansing.
A celebration of Cindy's life will take place on August 10, 2024 on what would have been her 58th birthday.
Cindy was taken away from us way to early and our lives will never be the same. She will never be forgotten!
Those wishing to make a contribution in memory of Cindy may do so to her favorite charity: St Jude Children's Hospital.

Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fleschner Memorial Library in Birch Run.
Marg was born August 25, 1936, in Mayville, Michigan, to the late Lloyd and Marvel (Dambra) Blackmore and grew up within the family funeral home - Blackmore & Tubbs. She graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1954. After graduation, Marg went on to earn her teaching certificate from Central Michigan University in 1956. She married Ronald Knoll on June 23, 1956, at the Mayville United Methodist Church. They enjoyed many wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on January 8, 1996.
Marg taught kindergarten at Lacure Elementary in Clio for several years before taking time off to raise her family. She would occasionally substitute for Birch Run Schools before ultimately becoming the librarian for Marshall Greene Middle School. In total, Marg worked within the community for over 15 years before retiring in 1997. She was a faithful member of Birch Run United Methodist Church where she served on various boards over the years, the Red Hat Society, and the Birch Run Retired Teachers Group. Marg also served on the board for the Birch Run & Taymouth Educational Foundation and was a founding member of the Birch Run Widows Group.
Marg’s wanderlust knew no bounds, as she coined herself to be the "worldwide traveler" after exploring destinations like Japan, Greece, Italy, the East Coast, Hawaii, Alaska, and California. In her younger years, Marg enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards. She was an avid reader and quite skilled when it came to crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Her Saturday afternoons were dedicated to her beloved UofM football, a tradition she upheld, never once missing a game, especially when her son Brian marched proudly in the band. Marg loved times spent up north at the lake, but nothing quite matched the simple pleasure of sitting on her porch with a crisp glass of white wine, in the company of her cherished friends, Bev and Nan. But above all else, Marg cherished moments spent with her children and grandchildren and all the memories they made.
Surviving are: Daughter, Lou Ann (Richard) Palmer; Sons: Bradlee (Darcy) Knoll, and Brian (Gina) Knoll; Grandchildren: Alyssa (Jason) Shirely, Matthew Cook (Fiancée Hillary Hammond), Peyton Knoll, Logan Knoll, and Hayley Knoll; Great grandchildren: Brooks and London Shirely; Niece, Allison (Max) Shook; Special friends, Harlen & Peggy Day; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Marg was also preceded in death by: Sister, Beverly Wright; Half-brother, Robert (Patsy) Tubbs; Nephew, Scott Wright; Brothers-in-law: August (Ethyl) Knoll, and Jack Wright. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vassar Comfort Care for all their compassion, love, and care.
