Thank you to each of the Alumni that attended the Reunion Social on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Circumstances required changes this year, and as always happens, there were a few glitches. The lighting and the sound system were not what was expected, but the program went on, nonetheless.
There were approximately 52 in attendance from the three 50-year grad classes of 1970, 1971 & 1972, and only three from the 25-year grads Class of 1995. Overall, the attendance was somewhere between 125 and 130. Mildred Woern Fox – Class of 1947 was recognized as attending the most Alumni gatherings- 78 to be exact, beginning in her freshman year of High School as a server. She is pictured in the photo gallery below, holding two roses.
Without the help of some dedicated people, the Alumni Reunion would not have been possible: Thank you to Krystal LaBair – Class of 1977, for running errands, providing the table decorations in the foyer, and helping with the set-up. Thank you also to Judy Ollila – Class of 1979 for taking photos. Her photos of this Reunion Social can be found below. Thank you to David Vizzard – Class of 1970, for taking part in the program. Dave has been writing a feature article for the Historian for several years now and is also the author of the Nick Steele series of books. His article in this year’s Historian “Wingnuts Soar” is a great read and a great story about friendship. Thank you to Dave Patterson – Class of 1971 for presenting this year’s Alumni Scholarship Award and the Norman Duncan Award to Carly Hoag – Class of 2022. Thank you to Ron Johnson – Class of 1967 and Shari Griffis Johnson – Class of 1971 for all the help with setting up and clean-up. Thank you also to the Lions Club volunteers that helped both Friday and Saturday, and to Al Gabalis - Class of 1988 for the printing of the Historians, the Programs, and the Golden Diplomas. Thank you also to Patti Vollweiler – Class of 1981- for all her hard work in planning and being responsible for the refreshments and flowers. She is also the Treasurer for the Alumni Association. In addition, she is responsible for mailing out all the orders for the Historian papers, the donation Thank You notes, the award letters and invitations to the Scholarship winner and the Senior Class President.
Thank you to all the Alumni who donate and send funds that enable the Alumni Association to help stock the supply closets in the schools, as well as give a scholarship each year to a graduating senior. Without you, there would be no Alumni Association.
Our Alumni Association celebrates being 135 years old this year! However, as wonderful as that sounds, there are many things that happen behind the scenes that most Alumni are not aware of. The circumstances of the last two years, beginning in 2020, forced the cancellation of the annual Alumni Dinner. This year, the high costs of everything from the table and the chairs to the food and the beverages, made it necessary to re-invent the Alumni Dinner as well. Many alumni expressed their disappointment at the fact there would be no dinner, but as disappointing as that sounds, try to imagine NO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. Sad to say, that is exactly where we are headed if more volunteers don’t step forward.
We can’t twist people’s arms to get them to help, so what do we do?
Could you take a turn to help with the All-School Reunion? With table decorations? Flowers? Set-up? Clean up? How about writing an article or a story for the Historian or the website? How about volunteering to mail out the Historians next spring? We’d love to hear from you and from anyone who is interested in volunteering a bit of time to keep the Alumni Association up and running.
