In loving memory of Daniel Elmer Day, a pillar of the Mayville community, who
unexpectedly passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on July
31, 1942, in Caro, Michigan, Daniel was the beloved son of the late Elmer and
Julia Day. A graduate of Mayville High School, Class of 1960. Later joined in
matrimony with Judith Day in Lapeer, Michigan whom proceeded him in death.
Daniel's passions were as diverse as the seasons. From the exhilaration of
snowmobiling to the tranquility of fishing, he found joy in every moment.
However, it was his deep love for farming that truly defined him. His dedication to
the land was not just a livelihood but a cherished way of life.
He is survived by his younger brother, Gary (Pamela) Day, and leaves a legacy
through his nephews, Jeffery (Sarah) Day and Justyn (Sarah) Day, along with their
children Peyton, Milly, Sam, and Lyla Day. Daniel also cherished his relationship
with Jacob Lichnovsky, a great friend whom he mentored.
A celebration of Daniel's life will take place on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Avram
Funeral Home in Mayville, Michigan. Visitors are welcome from 2-7 pm, followed
by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Terry Blackmer at 7 pm. A private family
burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the

Our loving father, grandfather and loyal friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at his home. John Paul Temple was born on July 3, 1927 in Silverwood, Michigan, the son of the late Peter and Bertha (Snover) Temple. While in school he helped out on the farm and later worked with his brother and learned the electrical trade. This lead John into working for the Kroger grocery company in refrigeration and HVAC repair for many years, in which he retired in 1992. One day while in a Marlette Five and Dime he met the love of his life, Jean Beltz. They were united in marriage on April 16, 1947 and after over 70 years together she preceded him in death on April 1, 2019. John was a devoted member of the Vassar Fire Department for 35 years, spending the last 8 years as Assistant Fire Chief, retiring in 2003. John was also a devoted and faithfully member of the Vassar First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was in the choir, an usher and active in various other groups.
John enjoyed camping and was a member of the Cork Pine Campers & Hikers. He and Jean traveled to all the states and various other destinations but particularly spent many winters in New Port Richey, Florida and many weekends at the family cottage on Sand Lake. John liked to play card games - Tens and Yahtzee and enjoyed staying active playing golf and fishing. One of John’s true passions was working with wood. He would carve various statues and trinkets and give them to his family and friends as gifts that they all treasure today. Another passion of his was his yard and garden. He and Jean spent many hours in the garden making sure it looked beautiful.
Surviving family include his daughters, Barbara (Tom) Johnson and Luann (Jerry) Mahan; grandchildren, Tammy (Mike) Van Horn, Cameo (Gary) Kerr, Tommy Johnson, Melissa (Mike) Agosta-Temple, Michelle (Kevin) Temple-Clark, Scott (Dawn) Bullard, Stacy (Scott) Krugielka, Jessica (Tony) Miller, Marae (Dustin) Gerard and Jerry (Stacy) Mahan; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brendan, Brooke, Landon, Laurel, Ethen, Ryan, Jersi, Brooks, Patrick, Emmaline, Ella, Olivia and Alexis; great-great-grandchildren, Cole, Bret and Kylynn; four-legged feline friend, Tara; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Bertha; beloved wife, Jean; sons, Ron and Paul Temple; granddaughter, Tina Marie Bullard and siblings, Robert and Charlie Temple and Marian Fox and Emma DeGrow.

Private burial will take place at Eastlawn Memorial Garden in Saginaw. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar. John will lie in-state at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am.m until the time of his service. Erma Jane Brown, age 83, of Mayville, MI passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Devonshire Assisted Living in Lapeer, MI.
She was born on April 21, 1940 in Flint, MI to the late Vernon and Ethel (Richmond) Cronover. Erma was a graduate of Mayville High School with the Class of 1958. She married Harry Brown on February 21, 1961 in Mayville, MI. Erma loved sewing and planting flowers. She worked as a Tuscola County Clerk.
Erma is survived by children, Gary Brown of Fostoria, MI, Kim (Nick) Danhausen, of Swartz Creek, MI and Tamara Brown of Suwanee, GA; sister, Caroline Scigel of Mayville, MI; grandchildren, Dana (Evan), Chelsea, Erin, Kristina and Timmy (Jessica); great grandchildren, Noah, Eli, Brooklyn, Grayson, Marlee and Brynlee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry of 57 years; son, Terry Brown in 2020; and sister, Norma Meisenheimer.

Lori Jean (LaBair) Bellor “aka, Hurricane”, age 62, of Mayville, MI passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at her childhood home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born May 7, 1961 in Marlette, MI to Duane and Patricia (Fuller) LaBair. Lori was a graduate of Mayville High School with the Class of 1979. She went on to graduate from Baker Community College as a Medical Assistant. Lori married the late Timothy James Bellor on June 21, 1986 at Dream Lake, MI. They were married for a wonderful and blessed 36 years. She was a Jill of All Trades, holding many jobs over the years. She worked early on as a medical assistant, but then also worked for JJ Jamokes, Big Boy, Bavarian Inn, Serve Pro, Walmart, as a Home Health Aid/Caregiver, Dog Trainer for 20+ years, Horse Trainer, at the Fowler Center and most recently at Spark. Lori loved to volunteer her time helping people in any way she could at places such as Mayville Schools Art Docent Program, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Evaluator/volunteer for Therapy Dogs, 4-H Leader, and Relay for Life. She was a strong advocate for other cancer patients and helped in starting the Annual Ride for a Cure Horse Show. She thoroughly enjoyed kayaking, snowmobiling, horseback riding, camping, arts and crafts and cooking. Lori was a free spirit, a mover and a shaker, and an energizer bunny. She was fearless but, first and foremost, she was devoted to her family and being a Mema/grandma. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and had a love for hosting, creating and attending haunted houses. She was a thrill seeker, loved adventure and to travel.
Lori is survived by her daughters, Amanda (Maxwell) Reis and Allison (Andy) Hecht; step-daughter, Angela (Tony) Filippis; grandchildren, Rosemary, Hudson, Adriana, Anthony, Audrey, and Austin; father, Duane LaBair; siblings, Mitchell (Krystal) LaBair, Edward (Laura) LaBair and Gail (Robert) Crompton; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and special friends; and not to be forgotten, Jack and Mini, her beloved fur babies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Bellor in June of 2022; and her mother, Patricia LaBair in October of 2023; father-in-law, Howard Bellor; mother-in-law, Arlene (Blondin); aunt, Sandra March; cousins, Darcy and Kathy; and special friend, Kim.
The family would like to give a special thanks to United Hospice of Marlette and nurse Tonya for their wonderful services during this difficult time. They were instrumental with both Lori’s end of life care and her mother’s end of life care just 5 weeks prior.

Robert “Dick” Hazen, age 88, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Wellspring Nursing Home in Frankenmuth.
He was survived by his children, Lois (Todd) Hook, Ruth Ann Hines, Joy (Bob) Pifer, David (LeeAnn) Hazen, Mark (Lynn) Hazen; mother of his children, June Hazen; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wayne (Carol) Hazen, Marsha (David) Converse and Gary (Candi) Hazen; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Violet Matthews.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Charlotte Elaine Hazen; and his wife, Margaret Hazen.
A Memorial Service will be planned at a later date.
Burial has taken place in West Burlington Cemetery.
Robert Theron Hiiter, age 65, formerly of Mayville, MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at his home in Bumpass, VA.
He was born April 5, 1958 in Cass City, MI to the late Delbert and Arlene (Cowles) Hiiter. Robert was a graduate of Mayville High School with the Class of 1976. He then spent some time working in the heating and cooling industry. Robert started working at Mayville Community Schools as the Maintenance and Transportation Director and occasionally drove a school bus until his retirement in 2017. Robert started his career in the fire service in 1985 and dedicated over three decades to serving the Village of Mayville and the surrounding communities. His career saw him evolve through various roles, including engineer, training officer, and Assistant Chief before his promotion to Fire Chief in 2011. A respected instructor with the Tuscola County Fire Instructors Association for over 30 years, Robert played a pivotal role in both the expansion of the Mayville Fire Station and the formation of the Tuscola County CERT Team. His exceptional service was recognized in 2023 with the prestigious President's Award from the Michigan State Firemen's Association, honoring his 36 years of commitment and achievement. In addition to his fire service, Robert also contributed to community safety as a reserve police officer with the Mayville Police Department and spent several years as Medical Examiner Investigator in multiple counties.
Robert is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Steven (Kimberly) Hiiter and Matthew (Ronda) Hiiter; grandchildren, Aidan, Natalie, Hunter, Olivia, Amanda, Zach, Sullivan, Danika and Dusty; step children, Marcus Schuette, Kyle Schuette, David Ross Jr., Lillian Ross, Teresa (Scott) Reeser and Jason (Tammy) Bellor; step grandchild, Skyler; siblings, Larry (Jean) Hiiter and Richard (Teresa) Hiiter; niece, Melissa Pudelko and Christine (Matt) Mollema; great nephews, Dylan and Walker Mollema; long time friends Tom and Lyn Rogers and a community of firefighters and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet White; nephew, Larry Hiiter Jr.; one of his best friends, Boyd Vollweiler; and several brothers and sisters of the Fire Service.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 4-8 PM at the Mayville Fire Department with a Firefighters Pass and Review taking place at 7 PM and then from 10-11 AM on Friday, December 1, 2023 also at the Mayville Fire Department.
A Funeral Service and Last Call will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Mayville Fire Department with Pastor Terry Blackmer officiating.
Burial will take place in Waterford Cemetery at a later date.

William “Bill” Paul Raymond, age 82, of Mayville, MI passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at his home with his loving family around him.
Bill was born in Oakland County on April 29, 1941 to Edward and Mary (Burger) Raymond. He graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1959 and would marry his High School sweetheart, Judy Duncan, fifteen days after graduating on June 19, 1959 at Rich Bible Church. He and Judy lived most of their married lives on Bill’s childhood family farm. He was a superintendent at General Motors and retired after thirty two years.
Bill was known for being a man of his word. He taught his children how to work and help others. One of his favorite things to do was to go to auction sales and do yard work. He and Judy enjoyed sixty four years together as best friends and full of love for one another. It is a privilege and an honor to be his wife and children.

Boyd Henry Vollweiler, "Grandpa Moo”- to his grandchildren, age 63, of Watertown Township passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at his home.
He was born December 6, 1959 in Marlette, MI to Floyd Henry Jr. and Margaret Ann (Teeple) Vollweiler. Boyd attended Brown City Schools and then later graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1978. He was the owner of Thumb Complete Home Repair LLC, heating and cooling contractor, an all around handy man, and a member of the Watertown Township Board. Boyd was a hobby farmer, raising a few cattle and pigs. He was proud of his large patch of asparagus that he shared with numerous others. He inherited his mother’s ability to can and preserve and even when he was ill, he insisted on having a garden and canning the produce with the help of friends and family. He will be fondly remembered by many for his very special “Raspberry Juice 100 proof”.
Boyd is survived by his children, Paula (John) Tuttle and Paul (Candice) Vollweiler; grandchildren, Bruce and Barry Tuttle, Kira and Suri Vollweiler; sisters, Vickie (Tom) Shields and Patti (Gregg Loudon) Vollweiler; nieces, Tiffany (Josh) Harrison and Tara Shields; great nieces, Elise Harrison and Alana Colvin; great nephew, Jason Harrison; many aunts, uncles and cousins; partners in crime, Mr. Bob Houle, Robert Hiiter, Terry Wingert, Dave McInally, Dan Merckle, Mark Bowler, Ed Dipple, Jim Teeple, and Gregg Loudon; and closest to his heart, Teresa Whitaker; special friend, Terry Kinney; cherished caregivers, Kimberly Hiiter, Tammy Eppenbrock, Crystal Armchambault, Deborah Krieger and Terri TerBush.

Patricia Jean LaBair, age 85 of Mayville, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at home with her family by her side after a 35 year battle with cancer.
She was born on March 5, 1938 in Port Huron, MI to the late Lloyd and Katherine (Loomis) Fuller. Pat was a graduate of Capac High School with the Class of 1956 and went on to graduate from Flint Jr. College, Saginaw Valley College and earned her Nursing degree from Mott Nursing School in 1969. She married Duane LaBair on December 29, 1956 at the Capac Methodist Church. Pat retired from Mayville Community Schools as the school Nurse in 2005 and spent her summers helping with the Reese Migrant Program. She was a Member of the Mayville United Methodist Church and helped start the Sunshine Nursery. Pat helped with the Mayville Area Share Shop, served on the Mayville Sunflower Festival Committee, was a Dayton Clover 4-H Leader, a superintendent of Textiles/ for Tuscola County, and worked on the Mayville Area Ambulance Service. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Commission on Aging, Diamonds in the Rust Tractor Club, Sand Lake Sno-Goers, Sunrise Side Trail Blazers, Farm Bureau, and Card Club. Pat had a great social life, she enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, kayaking, cooking, card, sewing, dancing, swimming, quilting, gardening, traveling and watching horse and live stock events at the Tuscola County Fair. But most of all, her grand kids were her life! She loved watching all their sporting events.
Pat is survived by her husband of 66 years, Duane; children, Mitchell (Krystal) LaBair, Edward (Laura) LaBair, Lori Bellor and Gail (Robert) Crompton; grandchildren, Carla (Paul) Schultz, Seth (Missy) LaBair, Kendra (Kyle) Eaves, Chelesa LaBair, Connor (Carrie) LaBair, Hayden (Lauren) Ewald, Haley Ewald, Angela (Anthony) Filippis, Amanda (Maxwell) Reis, Allison (Andy) Hecht, Brandon Coxe, Jared Coxe, Keith Crompton and Isabella Crompton: 15 great grandchildren and two more angels to come; step brother, James (Cathy) Ward; sister, Susan (Matthew) Peraino; and step sister in law, Betty Ward.
She was preceded in death by her son in law, Timothy Bellor in 2022; sister, Sandra March, step mother, Bernice Ward; step brother, George Ward; and step sisters, Sandara Ward and Luann Ward Miller.

August 20, 1929 - October 24, 2023
Arlene Ann Robinson, age 94, of Caro, formerly of Mayville, passed away on October 24, 2023 at Holiday Winter Village.
She was born August 20, 1929 in Mayville to the Marvin and Beula (Titus) Gohs. Arlene attended Lapeer Schools and then graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1947. She married Dale Hugh Robinson on November 15, 1947 in Mayville by Rev McMinn. They celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary shortly before Dale passed away on December 27, 2011. They both worked together as dairy farmers for 29 years, before retiring. Arlene enjoyed attending Dale’s Army reunions across the country, having family reunions, and Michigan 84th Infantry Division “Railsplitter” Reunions for the last 27 years, at their home and later on at a restaurant. She was an active life time member of the Mayville/Vassar VFW Ladies Auxiliary #10884, and life member of the Mayville Area Museum. Arlene always had a large garden, took lots of snapshots during their retirement years of traveling to different states.
Arlene is survived by her sister, Barbara (Gohs) Munger of Port Huron, MI; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband in 2011, Dale; her parents, Marvin and Beula Gohs; siblings, DeVere, Josheph, Everett, Roger and Fred Gohs; and sister Marcia (Gohs) Bassford.

Timothy Alan Taylor of Fostoria, age 56, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2023 at his home. Tim was born August 26, 1967 in Flint, the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Henshaw) Taylor, and graduated from Mayville High School, class of 1985. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and his pets. Most of all, he loved his children.
Tim is survived by three children, Christopher Taylor of Swartz Creek, Mark Taylor of Frankenmuth, Olivia Taylor of Frankenmuth; three sisters, Cheryl (Greg) Barnett of Chesaning, Pam Rulason of Mayville, David Taylor of Millington; Mark and Olivia’s mother, Darlene Ziembo; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Taylor.

November 15, 1941 - September 18, 2023
John Ernest Secord, age 81, of Mayville Michigan passed away Monday, September 18th, 2023 after a long battle with dementia.
He was born November 15, 1941 in Flint Michigan to the late John Harold Secord and
Ada Bell (Osburn) Secord Harp. John lived most of his life in Fostoria Michigan. He
graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1959. He then went on to graduate from Michigan State University in 1963 with a bachelor degree in science where he majored in medical technology. John married the late Sandra Howard on March 23, 1963 at the Fostoria United Methodist Church where he was a member for over 50 years. He was a
microbiologist with Hills and Dales Health Care for 35 years.
Often found with one of his signature hats on head, fountain drink and sudoku book in hand, he was always quick with a joke. John was a seasoned traveler, photographer, bird watcher and reader. He enjoyed being involved in the church and the community but most of all loved watching his grand kids sports and activities.
John is survived by his daughter, Sherri (Tom) Elenbaum of Mayville, Michigan; son, Jeffrey

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Renee (Secord) Lockwood; step
sister, Sara (Harp) Gottler; step brother, David Harp; and family friends, Wally Hahn, Floyd and Pat Bedell.
The family will receive visitors 1-3 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Fostoria United Methodist.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Fostoria United Methodist Church with Pastor David Freeland officiating.
Burial will take place in Watertown Township Cemetery.

Patricia A. Kontak, died September 2, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. She grew up in Mayville, graduating from Mayville High in 1965. From there, she became an RN and worked at a hospital in Tempe, Arizona. She also got a degree in Anthropology at ASU. In 1983, she moved back to Mayville to raise her son, Jeff. After retirement, she RV’ed around the country for a few years, then moved to New York City. From there, Patty moved to Millington to be close to family. For the past ten years, she lived outside of Inverness, Florida. Patty had a love of the outdoors, backpacking and hiking all over the midwest, Appalachian Mountains and the Colorado Rockies. In Florida, she loved riding her motorcycle, kayaking and photographing wildlife and scenery. She attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Leesburg, Florida. She is survived by her son, Jeff; grandsons, Eliot and Brandon; sisters, Sandra and Josie; and brothers, Jerry and Alan. She will be especially remembered for her beautiful photography, love of the outdoors, adventuresome spirit and strong faith. A memorial service was held on September 9, 2023, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mayville.
