Thomas Phillip Manwell, age 67, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Tom was born November 8, 1954 in Marlette, Michigan. He grew up on a small farm in the tiny town of Mayville, Michigan, where he developed his early love for John Deere tractors. He loved all John Deere tractors—big and small and had quite the collection of different tractors. The loves of Tom’s life were his John Deere tractors and his work in the ministry with Evangelist Dr. Tom Williams, known as the Cowboy Preacher. Dr. Williams introduced Tom to the love of his life, Mary Alice Smith. August 24, 2004, when Tom lassoed his wife in marriage, Dr. Williams performed the wedding. Seventeen years later, he presided over Mary Alice’s funeral service. Tom loved the Lord, his Savior, and was so proud of the evangelistic work with Dr. Williams that gave Tom the opportunity to share his faith with others. His goal in life was to read the Bible through 100 times. But due to his failing health, he only accomplished reading the Bible through 88 times, and the remainder of times he listened to it on DVDs. In his spare time, Tom loved watching old movies and was an avid fan of John Wayne.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 17 years, Mary Alice (Smith) Manwell; his parents, Clinton and Marion (Benidect) Manwell; brothers, Richard Manwell and Kenneth Manwell; and a brother-in-law, Reverend Lyle Ohman.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Keri Manwell; brothers, Dennis Manwell (Sharon), Brian Manwell, and Tom’s twin brother, Steve Manwell (Machelle); sisters, Beth Ann Ohman and Kathleen Manwell; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other family members and a host of friends.
The family is planning a memorial service for Tom that is tentatively scheduled for November 4, 2022 at King’s Way Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Williams officiating. The time will be announced at a later date.
Thoughts and condolences to the family may be shared online at www.whitleygarner.com.
